People who are stressed tend to seek out foods high in sugar and fat


Stress can overload the physical health and psychology. Stress can also cause problems like migraines, digestive, and anxiety. For people who aren't able to productively deal with stress, they may be looking for impingement with consuming foods high in sugar and fat.

The food was considered to be calming in a time of stress. But according to a new study published in Cell Metabolism, eating foods high in sugar and fat when feeling stressed the more increases the risk of the rise of unhealthy weight.

Study finds eating comfort food when stress can cause more weight gain than eating while not being stressed. The research team led by Herbert Herzog, head of the laboratory of eating disorders at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, see how stress affects mice gaining weight on a high-calorie diet.

They found rats in environmental stress experienced more weight at the same meal pattern than rats in groups that are not stressed. The research team tried to drill down further the cause of weight gain it.

After investigating further, scientists discovered a molecule called NPY relating to eat under stress stress. When the production shut down, gaining weight is decreased.  "While we cannot suppress the production of NPY, we may be able to limit the results by reducing stress and avoiding processed foods, " said researchers reported by Mind Body Green.

It turns out that NPY production associated with the levels of insulin. The rats who ate under pressure have higher insulin levels than those in the stress-free environment. It increases insulin levels and levels of NPY that sparked more stress and weight gain.

 "Our findings demonstrated a vicious circle, in which a high level of chronic insulin is driven by a high-calorie diet of stress and encourage more and more packed, " explains Herzog.

Consequently, the research actually strengthens the idea of eating junk food and high-calorie under pressure is a very bad thing and trigger obesity. Kenny Chi Kin Ip as the principal author of the study stated that chronic stress combined with eating processed foods are the main drivers of weight gain that is not healthy.

 "So focus on reducing your stress and reduce your intake of processed foods especially when stress can help reduce this risk, " he said.
