Actively moving can suppress the risk of early death in those who are overweight or obese. Research claiming the obese people traveling by car has a 32 percent risk of death is higher than people who have normal weight and engaging in active travel.
The study was presented at the European Congress of Obesity. Their analysis covers the UK Biobank participants 163,149 that have been followed up for an average of five years. The range of ages of the respondents was in the range of 37 to 73 years. As much as 50.8 percent are women.
Obesity is defined as a body mass index (BMI) (kg/m2) of greater than 30. Respondents are classified in one of the groups such as driving a car, walking, cycling (active-mix), only cycling and just walk away.
Research Chair Carlos Celis said during the follow-up, a total of 2,425 participants died and 7,973 hit by heart disease. Compared with those of healthy weight and active changing of the blend (running and cycling to and from work), obese people traveling by car is associated with 32 percent higher risk for premature death. Obese people who rarely moves also doubled the risk of facing death from heart disease and increased 59 percent risk of heart disease is not fatal.
People with obesity that became active commuters showed cycling or walking to and from work can reduce the ill effects of obesity. Heart disease risk still increased by 82 percent in Active commuters with obesity than with normal-body active commuters.
The authors concluded these findings are causality. The results of the studies show people with obesity could potentially reduce the risk of early death if they engage in active travel. Regardless of a person's body weight, being physically active can reduce the excess risk associated with obesity.
"But compared to other forms of physical activity, such as sports and exercise classes, active commuters can implement it into your body and the daily routine. At the same time can improve overall physical activity levels and help meet current physical activity recommendations for health, "they said, as reported by the Times Now News, Monday (29/4).
